Moving FAQ in Eau Claire, WI
When should I begin planning my move in earnest?
The sooner the better, of course. The Moving Company recommends that you contact us to obtain a no-obligation quote a minimum of 8 weeks before your move. That way you can know exactly what your financial outlay will be, as well as ensure that the equipment and personnel will be ready for you on moving day.
What will my move cost?
It depends on the size of your house, the number of specialty or fragile items that we have to transport, and a few other factors. One thing is certain, though: your consultation and estimate from The Moving Company is absolutely free, and once your quote is given, that's what it will be. We hate surprises as much as you do!
Help! I need boxes and bubble wrap. Where can I get them?
The Moving Company carries boxes for sale in a variety of sizes, from small book boxes to large wardrobe boxes, as well as bubble wrap and other cushioning materials. Don't forget to pick up a few specialty boxes to pack pictures, mirrors, and other flat items. Of course we realize that the best box is a free box, and good sources for these include, but aren't limited to, grocery stores, liquor stores, book stores or fast food restaurants. Your local newspaper distributor is also a good source for outdated papers that can be recycled. Remember all those plastic grocery bags you saved? Put them to work! Social media can even be a valuable source for finding low cost or free moving supplies, so don't hesitate to put a call-out on Facebook or Twitter.
How many boxes will I need?
Again, The Moving Company can't really answer that without seeing your home in-person. In the meantime, there are a variety of online moving calculators out there, that can make a fairly accurate estimate based on the square footage of your home and how many people live in it.
How do I move my furniture without it getting scratched?
The Moving Company stocks its trucks with ample furniture blankets to ensure that your furniture gets to its destination undamaged. If you're moving yourself, call or stop by our office to inquire about furniture pad rentals.
What tools and supplies should I keep on hand to ensure that my move goes easier?
The Moving Company suggests the following:

- Hammer
- Power drill and drill bits
- Allen wrench
- Tape measure
